Masuliita Orphanage Receives Lifesaving Donation from First Lady’s Office and Partners

Masuliita Orphanage, a sanctuary for vulnerable children and orphans in Wakiso District, has received a major boost thanks to a generous donation from the office of the First Lady, in partnership with non-governmental organizations The Mantle of Deborah and Softcare.

The aid, consisting of essential everyday items, arrived at a critical time as the orphanage prepares for an upcoming evangelistic outreach.

The donation included sugar, rice, and sanitary items for young girls—supplies that are vital for the daily care of the children. Facilitated by The Mantle of Deborah through the First Lady’s office, this timely intervention underscores a continued commitment to supporting children who lack parental care at the Masuliita facility, which has provided shelter and care to over 70,000 children since its establishment.

Irene Kawuma, representing the First Lady’s office, expressed gratitude to the government for its sustained support for child welfare initiatives.

She also raised concerns over the rising number of domestic disturbances, which has contributed to more children being displaced from their homes, further increasing the demand for orphanage services.

Jolly Kamuhangire, head of Masuliita Orphanage, extended her heartfelt thanks for the assistance and appealed to other individuals and organizations to continue supporting the facility, emphasizing the ongoing needs of the children under her care.

The orphanage, a beacon of hope in the region, is dedicated not only to providing shelter but also to nurturing the children’s development and preserving cultural heritage.

Recent trends show that a significant number of children housed at Masuliita come from urban street backgrounds, presenting unique challenges that require tailored care and rehabilitation programs.

The orphanage’s most urgent needs remain food, clothing, education, and healthcare. While the recent donation addresses immediate requirements, sustained support from government entities, NGOs, and the private sector is essential for ensuring long-term well-being.

The collaboration between the First Lady’s office, The Mantle of Deborah, and Softcare highlights the power of coordinated efforts in child protection. Their support provides a foundation for Masuliita Orphanage to continue its mission of offering safety, hope, and a sense of belonging to children who have nowhere else to turn.

The initiative also serves as a call to action for broader societal involvement in child welfare, demonstrating that meaningful change is possible when institutions and individuals unite for a shared, noble cause.
